John Deere has been a leader in the industry for planting technology year after year. Have you been utilizing this technology?

When planting a crop using John Deere planting or seeding equipment your display is recording multiple layers of data. This data can be useful when looking at crop emergence to spot any potential errors or used to compare with yield maps at harvest to see varietal differences or field variability. Are you aware of the many data layers that your planter documents while in operation?

As Applied Rate:

As applied planting data. This shows what the planter actually put down for final planting population. This is controlled by a set target rate or prescription in this case and what the planter applies for population is recorded.

Prescription Rate:

Variable rate planting population prescription. This can be imported from 3rd party sources or built using the Agrian tool in Operations Center. To learn how to create Variable Rate Prescription's, click here.

Planting Quality:

Planting quality map (Rx vs Applied). This compares the target planting population with the applied planting rate and gives a comparison as a percentage of the target.

Varieties:

Varieties can be recorded during planting for comparisons later in the growing season and for record keeping.

Elevation:

Elevation data recorded during planting. This could be useful when compared to other factors such as yield or soil mapping to better understand how the field supports yield.

Speed:

Planting speed recorded during operation. This could be useful if the grower identifies an issue such as uneven planting depth or poor gauge wheel margin and needs to see if an operator was planting too quickly.

Gauge Wheel Margin

Margin is useful in identifying compacted areas or uneven seedbed conditions. This is recorded during planting and can be monitored while working.

Other layers available for viewing in cab during planting operation using the connect mobile app:

  • Singulation
  • Spacing coefficient (CV)
  • Applied downforce
  • Ride quality
